Visitors Over Time - Help Card Start of Chapter

This section shows a break down of visits for the reporting period. The total number of Visitors, Unique Visitors (duplicate visits not counted), and First-Time Visitors are shown. The Average Visit Length column displays the average amount of time your site was viewed, while the Visitor-Minutes column displays the total number of minutes your site was viewed.

Note: Visitors are counted at each interval called out in the report; in this example, daily. Since some visits may run into the next day, a single visitor may be counted more than once. For example, a visitor who browsed your site for twenty minutes from 11: 50PM Monday to 12:10AM Tuesday will be counted twice: once for the Monday time period, and again for the Tuesday time period.

This manner of counting visitors may lead to a discrepancy between the Visits Over Time totals for each day, and the sum of these daily Visits Over Time reported by the week in the General Summary table in the report.

Weekly totals of these Visits Over Time--counted by the day--do not account for visits which continue into the following day. These overlapping visits are counted twice. The total number of weekly visits in the General Summary table--counted by the week--may provide a more accurate number of visits, since the weekly reports account for visits which overlap into the following day.

Use this information to determine which time intervals had the most traffic.
